Community Celebrates Spring on a Different Beat

Everybody Drum Some invites Murfreesboro's music makers to come together and jam.

On March 29th, Murfreesboro locals joined together at Mayday Brewery to participate in the ancient practice of drumming to mark the change of seasons. An abundance of percussion instruments including drums, tambourines, and güiros were supplied to kick off the annual event. Attendees described the two-hour jam session as "exhilarating,""powerful," and sweaty."

"Thanks Christin. As you can see, we're outside Mayday Brewery, a place that boasts beer, hugs, and rock n' roll. Tonight, Everybody Drum Some is here for their annual spring jam session, and from the sounds of it, things are already shaking up inside. Let's go see."

"Drums have been a part of people's celebrations for centuries, for millennium. It's one of the oldest instruments known to man. It's an ancient practice or . . . or experience that people have to get together, make music, enjoy each other. Sometimes I call it exercise in disguise. You're moving, and you don't even realize that you're getting somewhat of a workout."

"In our modern world, people are really on their phones, on their screens. So, we really like presenting and giving people an opportunity to make some music, live music together. And as you noticed, no screens, no phones. We're actually live and in person, creating music together as a community.

"The name of what we do is Everybody Drum Some. It's available for people that are musicians that have been playing music, playing drums, playing other instruments for a lot of years, but it's also something that people can get into who have never had the experience before."

[SOT]

"One of the key ingredients to making good music is actually also one of the key ingredients to living a good life, and that's listening."

[SOT]

"I like to say that the drum is an easy-access instrument. You can find the beat, get in there and contribute to the music easy."
